When to Visit Naples and Treasure Cay

Naples and Treasure Cay share a subtropical climate with warm winters, hot and humid summers, and an Atlantic hurricane season. Here's how to choose your dates for each of our homes.

Winter (December to March): high season

Winter is peak season in Naples. It's mostly dry and sunny with mild temperatures, the time when many northern visitors and seasonal residents come south. Restaurants, events and boat ramps are at their busiest, and dates (especially around holidays) book up early. Winter cold fronts can bring a few cool, breezy days and choppier water, which is also when shelling can be good.

Treasure Cay is pleasant in winter too, though fronts can bring windy days that make crossings and reef trips harder. Plan a little flexibility into boating days.

Spring (April to May): a sweet spot

Spring often has the best combination: warm water, lots of sunshine and usually less rain than summer. It's excellent for boating, fishing and beach days in both places. In the Abacos, late spring is a popular time for boaters crossing from Florida while the weather is settled. Check the forecast for every crossing.

Summer (June to August): hot, green and quieter

Summers are hot and humid, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms in Naples. Mornings are the best time to be on the water. Crowds thin out, and some small restaurants and businesses on Isles of Capri and in the Abacos shorten their hours or close for a few weeks, so call ahead. The water is warm, and calm mornings can be beautiful for snorkeling and paddling.

Fall (September to November)

September and October are the heart of hurricane season and the quietest months. Some attractions close for maintenance, including Rookery Bay's Environmental Learning Center, which usually closes in September. By November, humidity eases and the high season starts to build.

Events and holidays

Naples' calendar is busiest from late fall through spring, with art fairs, festivals, boat shows, holiday lights on Fifth Avenue and Third Street, and weekly farmers markets. Holiday weeks such as Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's, Presidents' Day and spring break draw the biggest crowds and fill rental calendars first. See our local events calendar for what's on during your dates.

In the Abacos, the pace is gentler all year. Holidays, regattas and fishing tournaments bring more boats to the harbors, so if you're cruising over, reserve dockage early around those dates.

Hurricane season: what to know

The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June 1 to November 30, with peak activity usually from mid-August through October. Most weeks pass without a storm, but it's wise to:

Matching the season to the home

  • Boating and fishing trips: 119 Tahiti Street (pool, hot tub, 50-foot dock with jet ski lift, game room) and 107 Tahiti Street (30-foot dock) are great from fall through spring, and in summer if you start early.
  • Downtown Naples, season events and resort amenities: I102 at Naples Bay Resort is close to Fifth Avenue, with resort pools that are welcome all year.
  • Beach and Bahamas island-hopping: Bahama Beach Club #2001 sleeps 10 and has boardwalk beach access and offsite dockage for boats up to 80 feet. Spring and early summer are a favorite.
